Elsa's First Litter - Observed Weight Gain The above chart may be of use to other novice breeders as it shows the average weight of the litter during their first 28 days. As is the case in litters of this size (10 pups) there was a significant variation in individual weights. On day 2 it varied from 211 grams for the smallest pup up to 417 grams for the largest i.e. the largest was almost twice the weight of the smallest. The weight of the litter doubled approximately every 10 days. Weaning onto solid foods began on day 20 and you can see from the graph that the litter weight then began to increase at a slightly greater rate. By day 42 the average weight of the litter had risen to 3.8 kilos. |
